Welcome to the Homepage of Subwolves, a stand-alone strategy game which can be used by itself or with Silent Hunter III™. So, what does this game offer then? It is a strategy game based on the U-Boat war in the Atlantic between 1939 and 1945. Slip into the role of the "BdU" (U-Boat command) of the German U-Boat fleet and direct it as you see fit; U-Boat production, research and development, construction, sea-trials, personnel management, supervision of U-Boat ports from Norway to France and, of course, the actual strategic and tactical deployment of the U-Waffe.
Why a stand-alone strategy game that can be used with Silent Hunter III™?
Subwolves follows the concept of a general strategy game. From the point of view of the BdU, you lead the U-Boats into battle. The battles (the conflict between individual U-Boats and single or multiple enemy ships) can either be resolved by Subwolves itself, or played out using Silent Hunter III™.
Should I be able to implement these concepts, then Subwolves will undoubtedly be an enrichment for many enthusiastic Silent Hunter III™ players, as it will give them the possibility to play out the U-Boat war with a deeper background.

| It's not possible to get the project done up to the end of July. Too many 3D-work and code work is still to do. But I'm not going to give up the project. Instead I try to make the game final during the next months. Unfortunately my new job uses a lot of time. So there will be only less sparetime left for programming.

3D-Artist(s) wanted! |
We are looking for a new dev-member who is able to create 3D-graphics!
The most 3D graphics of the game are already done but there is still some 3D work to do. Especially the creation of the symbols of the big map and some planes.
New dev-members are highly welcome!

Development Update 18 |
The progresses of Subwolves are good. Some old problems could get solved. The sound engine doesn't make problems anymore and Subwolves now runs also without problems on Win7 and even on 64 Bit systems. Meanwhile, SW is also capable to handle 16:9 resolutions correctly.
More and more puzzle pieces get sticked together. Actually, I'm working on different parts of the management system of the game. Statistics, logbooks, etc.
I adjusted also the win and lose conditions to the code. If the player is able to skip England long enough from it's supply, the player wins the atlantic battle and the game. On the other side the player risks to get placed in front of a court martial in case of bigger failures.
A lot of work. But these progresses are quite motivating to me.

Development Update 16 |
The work is going on. Meanwhile I finished my study at the university and now I'm working 100% as a Jurist.
The sea battle procedures are written for 80%. Now I started to create the procedures about the allied airforces. The allied airforces consist of recon planes and attack planes.
They are able to attack several targets in Subwolves:
- UBoats in the open sea on their routes
- UBoats, which attack allied ships
- UBoat harbours
- UBoat Shipyards
- Industry centres
- Research centres
The strength of the allied air forces depends from several aspects. On point ist the supply of great britain by allied ships. Written with other words: The more your own UBoats sink enemie ships, the weaker will be the allied air forces.

Development Update 15 |
During the last weeks, I improved in a significant way the engine of the big map. Now its possible to load and to paint 500 to 700 objects in only some seconds.
From now on, I am going back to improve and to add general content to the program.

Month loaded with exams |
The January was heavy loaded with exams about different parts of my law-study. Fortunately this time is over. Now the work on Subwolves can go on faster again.
During the last weeks I improved the graphic-engine of the big map in different ways.
The work on the 3D-models of the merchants has started also.

Short info |
I added new stuff to the code of Subwolves during the last weeks. Among them is the following feature: Lost u-boats can get missing (without conrete informations) and sometimes appearing several weeks later in an u-boat harbour after a tremendous story again. Do you hear the "Das Boot" bells ringing? In such a situation the BdU has now the possibility to award the Kaleun and or the crew with the Ritterkreuz, if wished.
Other feature: Uboat commanders can get captured during a fight now. If yes, some of them are capable to escape and return to Germany again. Stories, written by heroes... In such a situation the player has also the possibility now to award such uboat commanders after their successfull escape back to Germany with the Ritterkeuz.
Important: If you don't award people after such stories, they will loose a lot of their moral and increase their fatigue of war!
Silent Hunter 5 (TM):
It looks like the new patch 1.2 doesn't improve the game SH 5 in a good way. So, there is no purpose from my side to adapt Subwolves for SH 5. Maybe only, if there is some time left at the end of development. But actually it doesn't make sense to spend time and nerves for such a "crap". Only a good and comprehensive patch 1.3 could change my mind. Thanks for your understanding.

Development Update 17 |
The work on Subwolves is going on. During the last half year, unfortunately, quite slow. Too many work in the office...
But now, since January 2010, I have again much more spare-time left to use for this project.
My purpose is to finish the project Subwolves up to the end of summer 2010. If it's not possible up to then, I think, I will give up the whole project.
But over all, I am slightly optimistic to get the project done instead of abandon it. My study at the university decides how much time I will get left for Subwolves, I'm on the final step to become a notar and a lawyer. There are quite some books which are waiting on me as preparation for my last big exams. I know, annoying...
I also hope there won't be too many new technical problems while programming on this project. But in the world of software development, I guess, you can never be sure ;-)
Actually, I'm working on the system to award uboat commanders with medals and ranks. The player can decide if he wants to give each medal by himself or let the whole work done by the AI. If you like to give only the Ritterkreuz to the uboat commanders by your own hands, feel free... Subwolves offers this possibility to you now.
Beside I'm making Subwolves compativel with Win7 32 Bit and also 64 Bit. I'm also changing the graphic issues. So there won't be problems anymore with 16:9 screen solutions.
Sorry for the long delay in posting any kind of news about Subwolves...

Development Update 14 |
The work on Subwolves goes on. Much faster than around Christmas and January.
Actually, I create the code for the generation of u-boats in sea while the player creates a new career. Each u-boat is going to be generated with an own waypoint-route, crews, and so on.
A bigger challenge of this point of work is to keep the time of loading as short as possible. Not as easy as it sounds because the program has to calculate a lot of different aspects during this process.
The creation of new 3D-merchants makes also good progresses.
